A truly once in a lifetime experience! Explore the hidden wonders of the Universe with Australia's largest mobile telescope for public viewing standing 2.3m tall and navigate through our galaxy and beyond!
This location offers uninterrupted views of the night sky away from city lights. Let our telescope become your window to the universe and reveal beautiful star clusters, fascinating nebulas (aka the star nurseries of the universe) and the light from galaxies millions of light years away!
On Saturday 30 March 2019 at 7:00pm
Come and spend the night among a small group of like-minded people and learn about the universe in an interactive, informative and truly inspiring way. You will witness the cconstellations shift before your eyes, as we explore the hidden secrets they bring along.
The night will begin with viewings of faint objects like nebulas and galaxies millions of light years away, before the moon rises around midnight and we explore the lunar landscape in detail.... but perhaps the most anticipated event if the night will be the opportunity to see the planets, starting with Venus, and from 3 am when Jupiter and Saturn rise and become available for viewing...you will see then first-hand in incredible detail with our 22 inch, 2.3m tall telescope. To see the storm bands and moons of Jupiter, and Saturn with its fascinating rings through an observatory sized telescope is truly an extraordinary experience and one you'll never forget!
And planetary viewings are all the more special because they don't rise early enough to be part of any observatory viewings until winter... and then of course, unless you are up Nort, the winter weather is too unpredictable. So do yourself a favour and unless you can join us in July in Exmouth, book now to be part of the special few who can tick this off their bucket list!
So wear warm comfy clothes, rug up and get ready to stay up all night with us or bring a swag, caravan or tent if you would like to catch some zzzz. There will be plenty of hot drinks and nibbles to keep us warm and lots of time to ask questions, share stories and wonder!
We will be on site from 5:30 pm if you would like to join us early for a picnic or BBQ (BYO meal) to get to know each other.
The Astronomy Experience will commence at 8:00 pm with a presentation to learn about our universe and the amazing objects we can expect to see on the night. We will thenk walk about 5 min. to clear the trees until we reach the telescope viewing area where we will enjoy amazing views of the night sky until you've seen enough (will we ever?), or the first rays of sun come through and put an end to our session around 5 am.
