This location away from city lights, yet less than 20 minutes from Busselton, offers uninterrupted views of beautiful dark skies and is the perfect venue to explore our galaxy and beyond.
We willl begin the night with an entertaining and informative presentation about our universe and explore star clusters, nebulas and galaxies before the moon rises around midnight and we will begin our lunar exploration. As you explore the surface of the moon you will see its craters and rugged landscape appear close enough to touch!
The planets come next.... a unique experience this time of year, as the planets are mainly available early in the night during the winter months. We will begin with Venus -beautiful and bright, before Jupiter takes centre stage and you see for yourself why this planet has always fascinated astronomers. Our powerful observatory quality telescope provides amazing views of Jupiter's features including its coloured swirling cloud bands, the Red Giant Spot (the giant storm that is over two times larger than Earth!), and some of its many moons.
Last to rise, but certainly not least, is everyone’s favourite: Saturn. You will see Saturn and its rings around 3 am and conclude the evening on a high note!
So wear warm clothes, rug up, bring a chair and get ready for a truly unforgettable night with plenty of time to learn, ask questions and share stories under the starry skies! Hot drinks, nibbles and sweets will be provided to keep us going through the night. 😊 If you would like to book a site for a stay at Southern Stars Holiday Park, I have organised late check out for those wanting to sleep in and enjoy a leasurely Sunday lunch in the area. Simply contact the holiday park on Ph: 9755 1331 to book and let them know you will be attending the Astronomy Dusk To Dawn, so you get a site near the telescope set-up.
The evening will start at 7:30 pm, so please meet as at 7:15 pm by the front office to check-in for the activity and be guided to the telescope set-up area.
Saturday 30/3 is also Earth Hour, so why not join this global movement for the environment and turn off the lights and look up at the stars instead!
* Astronomy is a weather dependent activity; however, it is extremely common that forecasted cloudy or windy conditions will not prevent viewing. The session will be considered to have been clouded out if less than 6 objects are visible and an alternative viewing date will be provided should that be the case.
* If an astronomy experience is cancelled by The Mobile Observatory due to severe weather warning or force majeure, an alternative date will be offered in the first instance. If no suitable date can be agreed upon, a refund minus $2 processing fee p/p will be offered.
* If you are unable to attend due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, contact The Mobile Observatory in advance to discuss options.
* No refund offered to no-shows.
